I second EVERYTHING. But specifically:
-Bobby because Sharon Stone is a bowl full of CRAZY.
-Postcards from the Edge for the Meryl/Shirley ADORABLENESS/FIERCENESS. Also, Meryl and Shirley BOTH sing.
-Bridges of Madison County because you will cry your fucking eyes out. Or at least want to, since you have those stubborn tear ducts. SERIOUSLY, SO GOOD.
-The Graduate for Anne Bancroft, and Anne Bancroft only. It's also quite fabulous and wee Dustin Hoffman is luff.

OKAYOKAY. I HAVE A LOT OF RECS AND WILL SPAM YOU WITH THEM.

FILMS
+Harold & Maude because it's an awesome bohemian/hippie movie that I know you will adore. After seeing it you will want to grow up to BE Maude.
+The First Wives Club just for the cast. And it is also hilarious.
+Chocolat. You know how we're going to be crazy bohemians who travel all over Europe starting bakeries? Well we are totally going to model ourselves about Juliette Binoche's character in this movie.
+Sophie's Choice because it's one of the GREATEST performances by an actress to ever be put on film.
+Georgia Rule so that we can discuss/decide if we actually liked it or not. And also fangirl over Flicka & JFonda.
+Stranger Than Fiction because Emma Thompson's character is amazing. As is Emma.
+Death Becomes Her just because it is HILARIOUS. Also, Goldie Hawn + Meryl Streep = major win.
+The Trouble With Angels. It will change your life. It made me want to smoke in my school bathroom when I was 6. Basically molded me into the total weirdo that I am today.
+Amelie because it is STUNNING. The story AND the cinematography.
+The Hours. I know I keep recing you Meryl stuff, but this film is really brilliant. Everyone gives magnificent performances. The film basically deals with women who feel trapped by expectations of their families/friends/society, and I think you'd really like that. I know that I did. It also has a beautiful score.
+The Mirror Has Two Faces because Lauren Bacall is the ULTIMATE aging diva in it.
+Connie & Carla because it's fucking HILARIOUS. You'll love it because you like all things fabulous. Also, Debbie Reynolds is in it and is superfun. It has showtunes, Debbie, and drag queens. What more could you want for an evening's entertainment (I TOTALLY JUST STOLE THAT FROM THE DROWSY CHAPERONE.)
+My Man Godfrey The quintessential Lombard film. Truly hysterical.
+Divine Secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood because every fabulous woman wants to be a YaYa. Also check out the books. They've wonderful.

BOOKS:
+A Tree Grows In Brooklyn because it's gorgeously simple and absolutely lovely.
+Running With Scissors (and then see the film after) because you will just GET him. It's also quite funny.
+The Bell Jar depressingly haunting, but beautifully written.
+Breakfast At Tiffany's because Capote is a genius. And the book is such fun, but a bit different than the film.
+Franny & Zooey. A must read for anyone who questions authority.

You are such a winner, Kate. omg.
I HAVE SEEN SOPHIE'S CHOICE AND IT KILLED ME. I was also in a severe amount of pain, physically, and I can't remember what it was, but I remember just having a total meltdown because I was watching a really gorgeously sad movie and in pain at the same time and it was.. OVERLOAD. But.. point? I love that movie.

I've also seen the FWC, and it's freakin' hilarious. I might just re-watch it just for laughs and fabulousness.
Amelie is looooove. I'll also have to re-watch that, because its been FOREVER. Other than that.. I WILL WATCH ALL OF THESE?

(p.s. I have been listening to Drowsy a lot and I kind of love it? Just so you knoooooow.)

Mmkay, I'm just going to list my favoritttess.
Good luck! ♥

Movies:
1. Little Manhattan; Because this is the most adorable movie you will ever see in your life.
2. Titanic: You've seen this already, riiight? I don't know if you're trying to watch movies that you haven't seen or not.
3. Pride & Prejudice (2005): Keira Knightley is wonderful in this movie, the book was amazing, and I just love it to bits.
4. The Princess Bride: I watched this movie one day when I was sick, the first time in like 5 years, and I had forgotten how cute it is.
5. A Knight's Tale: I loved this movie, it was so hilarious. And I just liked the fact that we watched it in cooking class while making cake. But it was also a really good movie.
6. A Walk to Remember: I cried so hard in this movie; it was so sad, but really really really good.
7. Lord of the Rings: This is one of my all-time favorite trilogies. I'm still working on the books.
8. Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story: I love this movie. Dakota Fanning is so cuuute in it, and I went through a phase in my life where I loved horses. But its such a good movie, I saw it on HBO and loved it.
9. Transformers: I saw this at my friends house, and it was surprisingly good. Trust me. It's worth watching.

Books:
1. My Sister's Keeper, Jodi Picoult: This book was amazing, I stayed up until two in the morning reading it. When I was finishing it I started crying. And books usually don't make me cry.
2. The Tenth Circle, Jodi Picoult: Another really good book by Jodi- basically all of her stuff I can (somehow) relate to. She's an amazing writer.
3. The Pact: A Love Story, Jodi Picoult: I cried in this book to- it's really good, you should read it.
4. Pride & Prejudice, Jane Austen: Because the movie wasn't enough, I read this, and I loved it.
5. Just Listen, Sarah Dessen: I just love this book so much, I reread it a lot.
6. Lord of the Rings, JRR Tolkien: I wanted to try the books, and I got to The Two Towers. I'm still in the middle of that, but am trying to finish them. I started with The Hobbit, and that was pretty good.
7. Perfect, Natasha Friend: I finished this book in one night. Two hours. It's short, but has a really good message? Awh, well it's really good and I couldn't put it down.
8. Elsewhere, Gabrielle Zevin: OMG, I haven't read this book in foreverrr, I read it in like 8th grade? Well it was really amazing and you should read it.
9. Eragon/Eldest, Christopher Paolini: The movie was crap compared to the books. Read them, they're amazinggg.
10. Vanishing Acts, Jodi Picoult: Not one of my favorites of her, but I loved it nonetheless.
11. Picture Perfect, Jodi Picoult: This book was confusing-ish at first, but I still loved it. Again, not one of my favorites by her.
12. Someone Like You, Sarah Dessen: Amazinggg book. Read it.
13. The Truth About Forever, Sarah Dessen: I loved this book to bits.
14. Inkheart, Cornelia Funke: They're making this into a movie, but read the book first. Because books are always better. I loved this book, but never got around to reading the sequel.
15. Lush, Natasha Friend: It's like Perfect, where I finished it in one night. Really good, but sad at the same time.
16. Maximum Ride series: I haven't read these in years, so I've forgotten what happens, but they're verrrrry good.
17. The Sight: Um. So this book takes a different perspective, with talking wolves? But it's actually good, I couldn't put it down. Its sad times a million also.
18. Roald Dahl is one of my favorite authors. Read all of his books, I love them all.

haha you surprised me by your extensive list already.

Movies (some of which maybe incredibly corny and stupid, or you've seen, but I love comedies :D ):
-Juno - I LOVE THIS MOVIE. Kind of like Little Miss Sunshine in a way.
-Superstar - I think it's hilarious, I've memorized almost the whole thing, and I would call it a feel-good film.
-The Blues Brothers - singing, acting, dancing, biggest car-chase you'll ever see...
-Million Dollar Baby - I'm not a crier, and I was bawling during like, half of it.
-School of Rock - if only to educate you in rock history.
-The Number 23 - Really, really weird, but it was kind of interesting in the whole sense of numerology. Now I look for 23 everywhere. ;]

Books:
-Freedom Writers Diary - not sure if that is the title exactly, but it is from a bunch of kids journals from when they got the new teacher who tried to help them and such.
-The Perks of Being a Wallflower - I kind of forgot what it was about because it was looong ago I read it but I loved it.
-Anything by David Sedaris - he writes a ton of funny stories about his life. I'd start with Me Talk Pretty One Day, and if you like it, check out his other ones.

I always forget about books I read. I need a shelf.

It seems like all the reading I do is for college, so I'm trying to get back into reading for fun!
Films -- Lolita, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Virgin Suicides, Beauty and the Beast, Enchanted, Josie and the Pussycats, Ever After.
Books -- anything by Jodi Picoult, especially 'Nineteen Minutes' and 'Salem Falls', The Guardian by Nicholas Sparks, 'Tuesdays with Maurie' and 'For One More Day' by Mitch Albom ♥

SCARY MOVIES ...
OK. I meant to respond to this a while ago, but I've been away and forgot. I'm a total horror junkie -- over the past year my sister and I have wasted many weekends buying all the super cheesy looking used movies at blockbuster and watching them once. Life in Connecticut. :/ I don't know if you're into that sort of thing? but that's where I'll start:
  • The Red Shoes (분홍신). Falls apart fairly quickly, but the opening scene was definitely worth watching, and there are some subsequent freaky moments. Messy plot, good atmosphere.

  • A Tale of Two Sisters (장화, 홍련). Few movies actually scare me, and this one did. For like two minutes, but still? Plus the cinematography is fab, it's really fun to watch. Mostly I want people to see this before the crappy American remake is released.

  • The Host (괴물). Really more drama than horror? Innovative, character-based monster movie. I thought this was really good.

  • Frankenfish. Part of our quest to rent the worst possible B-grade crap we could find and marathon our way through with lots of alcohol. GOOD TIMES. Not as thoroughly painful as Supercroc, but still provides ample fodder for mockery.

  • Planet Terror. Zombies, strippers, amputations, Fergie being eaten alive, etc. Excessive and ridiculous gore. This is really a comedy? And in very poor taste.

  • The Descent. Can't really decide if I hate this or love it, but it definitely has its moments. Claustrophobia always works.

  • Silent Hill. Haha. Oh, movies based on video games. I'm recommending this only for the Boschian imagery. Genuinely creepy things are rare and precious.

  • Dead Silence. Dummies are just scary, obviously. And there's an awesome flashback with a sinister ventriloquist. Overall, sorta stupid, but full of jump moments and I like the colour palette. Old school fun.

I'm commenting with a few more recccs. And also because I saw you have watched Georgia Rule. And seemed to like. I think we should discuss, y/n?

So my recs:
Paris, je t'aime. If you're into foreign films, especially French movies, you will love this. Actually, you'll love it no matter what you're into. It's a really cool film. It's a 2 hour movie that combines a bunch of 5 minute short films that all connect at the end. It's really lovely and wonderfully made.

Benny & Joon. FOR JOHNNY. But also, the characters are really fascinating and well developed. It's just a really quirky and fun movie.

Here I come with suggestions.
Movies:
- Atonement (don't know if you saw it - this movie is simply gorgeous.)
- Juno
- C.R.A.Z.Y. (made in Québec - amazing.)
- Joyeux Noel (french movie... just really great.)
- Un long dimanche de fiançailles/A Very Long Engagement (with Gaspard - pretty amazing too.)

Books:
- My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. The most. touching. reading. experience. of my life. ever.
- Wicked by Gregory Maguire - I guess you know the musical, well, that's the book that inspired it. It's not the best thing ever ever, but it's a good lecture.

I would like to suggest you more books, but as I was raised with french, what I know is mostly quebecer/french. Sorry!
